Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County and the City of Lafayette and Louisville’s Senior Services to Host Mayors for Meals Day on March 24, 2010


Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County and the City of Lafayette and Louisville Senior Services Divisions announced today that they will be holding Mayors For Meals Day on March 24th. Mayor Cameron from Lafayette, Mayor Moore from Erie, Mayor Sisk from Louisville and Mayor Muckle from Superior will be participating in the event, as well as council women Carolyn Cutler from Lafayette, to show support for the community’s older adults.

The Mayor’s from each community served by Meals on Wheels and the City of Lafayette and Louisville’s congregate meal-sites at local Senior Service facilities will meet at the Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County location that morning ready to deliver meals with the program volunteer’s to program participant’s in their respective communities and to serve lunch at the City of Lafayette’s,” “Eat, Meet, and Greet Café “and in Louisville at “Brooks Café”. This is an opportunity for City officials to bring attention to and experience the program’s that improve the lives of so many homebound, low-income, and isolated older adults in the community.

“We are excited about having Mayor Cameron and Council Women Cutler from Lafayette, Mayor Moore from Erie, Mayor Sisk from Louisville and Mayor Muckle from Superior participate in our event. We hope to raise awareness and recruit as many people as we possibly can to join us in the national movement to end senior hunger by 2020,” said Melinda Hall” In East Boulder County we have had tremendous support from the mayors and council and trustee members of the four communities that we serve. According to Mary Lester Senior Services Manager for the City of Lafayette, “This event has been an excellent way for the City of Lafayette and Louisville’s congregate meal-sites to collaborate with Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County in raising awareness of the importance of good nutrition for the older adults that we each serve.
March for Meals is a national campaign, initiated by Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), which seeks to raise awareness of older adult hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community. Older adult nutrition programs across the United States, like Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County and the City of Lafayette and Louisville’s Senior Services, promote March For Meals in their local communities through participation in Mayors For Meals Day a component of the event that utilizes the involvement of local Mayors and other local elected officials.

Meals on Wheels of East Boulder County and the City of Lafayette and Louisville deliver or serve meals five days per week for the older adult population.
